It is highly recommended that when performing any movement you inhale while lowering the resistance (#eccentric phase of the movement) and exhale while lifting the resistance (#concentric phase of the movement)
The reason for this is that holding your breath while performing a movement has been shown to increase #blood #pressure, therefore requiring the heart to develop more pressure to eject blood which makes the work of the heart more difficult!
Practical application – focus on breathing correctly when performing any exercise, it also helps improve your mind-muscle connection (ability to solely contract the working muscle)
